The Loveables

A million viewers in the Netherlands, all tickets sold out in KINO. Believe only the very Kris Kringle that says there’s no Santa.

A hundred and twenty minutes of affection, children, humor and love. Santa die, long live Santa. The first Santa Claus angles for success and dislikes children but he lies about being Santa. He dies immediately right after five minutes. Then a new Santa comes in who couldn’t care less and he just happens to be involved in the story seemingly out of context, saying he is not Santa. Consequently he’s adored because they think what a silly Santa he is that pretends not to believe in Santa. It would amount to Jesus coming back to Earth saying he doesn’t believe in God because there is no God. Then everyone would begin to have faith like there’s no tomorrow. Approximately this is what the Dutch movie ‘Love is All’ is all about. Love each other. About this. Let’s love each other. Because we are all so much loveable. The homosexuals, the Dutch prince, the crane driver, the shop assistant, Santa Clause. Fairy-like faces, excellent actors, great script and a brilliant idea. But for some reason it fails to nail it – seldom does the audience in KINO laugh while the actors are nearly begging them. Might the viewers of KINO have set their expectations too high? I think this movie exceeded that. But deep inside I might doubt it. The idea is phenomenal but I’d adapt it to the silver screen differently if I wanted to feature twelve main characters under any circumstances, which is outlandish – then I’d show their faces much longer. On the other hand the movie is already two hours long, meaning that the duration fails to enable the portrayal of the twelve muchly interesting people. However, it could make me like all the characters. Out of the five female characters I fell in love with one at the tenth minute, another one at the twelfth minute and yet another one at the very end. In spite of them not being Julia Roberts or Sharon Stone. They’re like Pest women except that they are Dutch and beautiful. This is a great movie. I’d pick this in place of anything – though Stalker’s still my favorite.
