Dutch Film Weekend
Opening Ceremony
Opening ceremony 24 April 2009, 8 p.m. Uránia Film Theatre
The Dutch Film Weekend lasts from 25 to 27 April.
Five feature films and four documentaries will be presented at the Dutch Film Weekend, hosted by the newly refurbished KINO cinema. Most of the films, made in the past year, have won prizes and gained international success. Those who follow the recent developments of Dutch cinema will come across familiar names like Nanouk Leopold, some of whose films have already been screened in Hungary by art cinemas. Her second feature film (Guernsey) has so far only been shown at the ARIFF Festival (Székesfehérvár) where it won the award for best film. Besides the extremely popular Love is All, much enjoyed by children too and viewed in Holland by a million people, an experimental work by a video artist (Winter Silence) and a psycho-thriller (Blood Brothers) will also be screened. In Tiramisu, we can follow the ups and downs of a celebrated actress’s career. The main part is played by one of Holland’s most popular actresses, Anneke Blok, who won the Golden Calf award for best actress last year.
The documentaries in the programme cover a bold and wide spectrum, from the furthest point in outer space to the most intimate depths of human fears and dreams. The four films reveal parallel worlds and show the lives of computer game players, E.T. hunters, media stars and adventure-seeking musicians who must choose between the guitar and the machine-gun.
Duna Television will also contribute to the Dutch Film Weekend. They will screen successful Dutch films in May and June (e.g. The Waiter by Alex van Warmerdam), feature films (e.g. Conspiracy by Theo van Gogh, the murdered Dutch film director), as well as documentaries and children’s films.
