Babette Kleijn & Jan Adriaans
LUSH
Opening: 19 April 2009, 8 p.m.
”It is our aim to live a life as lustful as possible. After all those virtuous days, we tend to indulge ourselves with substantial feasts, unique wines and decadent sexual fantasies – all this under the proper, highly luxurious circumstances. The greasy coating of the roast cutlet shines as bright as the leather sofa set; they herald the wealth and vitality they represent.”
Babette Kleijn and Jan Adriaans play with such human desires. By their precisely composed works they suggest new opportunities for ”lush life”. However, when given a closer look, the pictures reveal traits of clumsiness, poverty and misery.
The project in Budapest is the result of the co-operation of Lumen Photoart Foundation and FW:, the platform for photography in the Netherlands.
