She`s like an actress Toepler Zoli (2009-04-26 09:01:56)
At the opening of the Dutch Film Weekend, Tiramisu, an unambiguous yet loveable film by Paula van der Oest was screened.
43-year-old van der Oest, already nominated for Oscar with an earlier piece, tonight told us the far-from-exciting story of a fiftyish actress and a fortyish male accountant, in quite an interesting and professional manner. The film has received a Golden Calf, together with best actress and best music awards. The meticulous handycam piece is finely put together, and if the Dutch launch their festival with one like this, I am already curious to see the other eight. Tiramisu depicts the Amsterdam theatre world, and Anneke Blok in the actress’ role is like an actress, she takes you away, and she is real in every single scene, not too much, not too little. If we left out the takes she is not in, the film would be better, as it would be only about her, and I am really interested in her. However, the director did not trust my taste, and her producer also managed to convince her to make a profitable film, so she added a lot of extra to it. She achieved what she wanted – the result is a popular film with much babbling on the surface but with Anneke Blok in the depths. Jacob Dervig is also good in the role of the accountant, I could say as good as his partner, but he is not, as he is a bit out of the story. Dervig is unreal because bureaucrats are unreal and false. It is hard to play a three-legged man, as no such exists. If someone still opts for this role, despite its falseness, that is pure imagination. This film, however, does not seem to be fiction, on the contrary, it was made to suggest that the story actually took place. It did not. Even not tonight, when we could see “only” that an actress played the perfectly drawn character of an actress.
