World Press Photo
Exhibition
09 April - 29 April
Pécs - Cella Septichora

World Press Photo is an independent non-profit organisation that was founded in the Netherlands in 1955 with the aim to support and promote press photographers' work. The photos expose to us the fate of the 700 mountain gorillas still alive today; make us face the reality that there are more than 1.5 billion TV sets in use all over the world and in some places people spend more than five hours a day watching TV; or the fact that the predecessor of bungee jumping, a tradition of the Nagol tribe, originates from a far-off island in the Pacific. The  exhibition of World Press Photo is the most comprehensive, all-inclusive press event in the world. The photos on display capture the most significant and decisive happenings of the last year in diverse categories.

In 2008, the ten categories of the most prestigious photo contest in the world received an unprecedented amount of 80 536 photos made by 519 photojournalists from 125 countries. Out of these images the international jury selected the 185 ones that were on display at the World Press Photo exhibition in 2008. A Hungarian record was also achieved: three Hungarian photographers reaped awards in four categories.

The exhibition can be viewed for three weeks in Cella Septichora in Pécs.
