SPACE Theatre will perform Worldwideheroshow at Trafó on 27 and 28 April, at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. each day. 

The playful theatrical hero contest of SPACE is to fulfill Andy Warhol’s prophecy that in the future everyone will have 15 minutes of world fame. The visitors, aided by the players, may test themselves in tailor-made hero’s roles, and, if they meet the challenge, can enjoy celebration for a few minutes, standing in the spotlight, confetti shower and rivers of champagne. They can even give autographs and brief interviews. They are soon replaced by the next group of would-be heroes, but each of them will have a place in the virtual pantheon of Worldwideheroshow, so – at least theoretically – the performance is expected to keep the promise that every participant will become world-famous and – like real heroes – immortal.

SPACE Theatre, founded by Petra Ardai and Luc van Loo, first performed in Budapest in 2007, with their interactive performance entitled Back to the Present, a walk through Budapest in sound, an internal examination about the manner in which different generations deal with their national history. LOW Festival 2008 hosted their Holland Tsunami, a “mockumentary crisis theatre play”, performed with great success at the Eastern Railway Station in Budapest, but later also in Pécs, at the Volt Festival in Sopron, the Thealter Festival in Szeged and the Alternative Theatre Review in Debrecen. The performance in Budapest, although it took place in February, was called “the best act of the year” by a leading news site.

“Damn, a real hero” is what I became. I happened to go to a theatre performance at Trafó, and could play a star on stage. Space Theatre turned me into a hero, sending me through the hero manufacture of Worldwideheroshow. The result was a special one: egomasseuse and scandal-maker.
